BTPA AP&P Requirements
A Bowen Therapy professional qualification now requires a thorough learning of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
A knowledge of human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology (AP&P) is expected from all Bowen Therapists who intend to work professionally in the field.
Summary: The Core Curriculum for Bowen Therapy requires Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology training to be completed prior to being issued with a Bowen Therapy qualification.
Training in AP&P
BTPA recognises Level 3 Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology (AP&P) qualifications awarded by recognised UK awarding organisations, including the International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC) and the Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT). These qualifications are regulated within the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England and Northern Ireland and are considered broadly equivalent to Level 6 qualifications on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). Recognised qualifications include the VTCT Skills (ITEC) Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for the Complementary Therapist (Qualification No. 603/4100/2) and the VTCT Skills Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (Qualification No. 600/4845/1). These qualifications provide underpinning knowledge in human anatomy, physiology and pathology and are widely accepted within the complementary therapy profession as appropriate preparation for practitioner training.
When looking for alternative AP&P training courses, you should ensure the syllabus meets the requirements laid out in the Core Curriculum for Bowen Therapy. There must be an invigilated exam at the end of the course (in person, or monitored via video conference).
If you only have an Anatomy & Physiology (no Pathology) qualification and wish to expand your Pathology knowledge (in order to meet the new standards), there are online courses you can take.
To join the Bowen Therapy Professional Association as a Full member, you will be asked to provide a copy of your AP&P qualification certificate. We also accept evidence of other training that incorporated AP&P - e.g. Sports Massage, Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Nursing, Medicine...
