FRACTURES

What complaint(s) or symptom(s) brought you to the Bowen Technique:

After I was hit by a car, had several bones broken and a long recovery period, I had developed a limp. I knew I wanted to make as complete a recovery as possible as soon as possible - so that I wasn't storing up problems for 10 years down the road.

How did your complaint(s)/symptom(s) affect you?:

Close to a year after the accident, I was still stiff and limping.

What activities have you been able to resume since receiving Bowen sessions? How has your life been improved?:

I no longer limp, and my flexibility is returning. I have also noticed other benefits from the treatment.

How many sessions have you received (and how often)?:

Many sessions, over a long period of time. I can't remember what my initial 'programme' of sessions was to fix my limp, but I found them so useful that I continued to have sessions long after my initial treatment was over and the problem resolved.

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?):

Working with Mary is one of the most relaxing things in the world. I think I've fallen asleep in just about every session I've ever had. After my limp had gone, I continued to have Bowen treatments, because it made me feel so much better in other ways - my migraines reduced, I felt more present, could think more clearly, no longer felt so stiff, slept better... the list goes on. I had more sessions when I was pregnant, which brought wonderful relief to an increasingly uncomfortable body! I can't recommend Mary enough - if you're in any way uncomfortable in your body, give her a call and see what she can do for you.

I would be happy to recommend Bowen Therapy to others.

What complaint(s) or symptom(s) brought you to the Bowen Technique:

Fractured Vertebrae

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?):

In the winter of 2008 I had a horse-riding accident. I was thrown off a horse, landing with all my weight on the top of my head. I instantly knew I had broken my neck. I spent 5 weeks lying in hospital with the top half of my body immobilised in a very uncomfortable and ill-fitting neck and body brace. I had compressed and fractured two vertebrae in my neck – C2 and C5. Very fortunately, I had escaped any nerve or spinal cord damage but my recovery was still an uphill struggle – the main challenge being learning to walk again. I spent a total of three months in that neck brace, all the time being aware that my neck muscles were all over the place. I began physio as soon as the neck brace came off. My head did not move left or right and I moved liked a robot, twisting from the waist whenever I needed to turn around. I had three months of physio. I felt that the exercises weren't helping and that my body was working against itself. I was encouraged to lie on my back and push my head around to the left and right with each hand to stretch the muscles. My neck muscles were switched 'on' all the time and did not want to co-operate. I knew I had to find something else to help me. Then my Mum told me about a Bowen article she had read about how a rugby player with a similar injury had been helped with the Bowen Technique. I had never heard of Bowen but decided it was definitely worth a go! I was lucky to find a physio on the NHS who was also a Bowen Practitioner. He really turned things around for me. After only three Bowen sessions I felt my neck begin to co-operate. Slowly it became possible to turn my head left and right. I continued to have Bowen for another six months with incredible results. My brain was allowing my neck muscles to release and take the brakes off for the first time since my accident! My neck muscles returned to normal and my rotations steadily improved with each session. I was so impressed by Bowen that I decided to train to be a Bowen therapist so that I could help other people like myself. It is two years since my accident and in 2 weeks time I am due to sit my final Bowen exam!

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?):

After a severe fall which resulted in several broken ribs I went for Bowen Therapy. The treatment was gentle and relaxing, as I was in considerable pain, I appreciated the light touch. After my first appointment, I had 60% improvement in movement. During my next two treatments, I gradually improved and the pain was lessened greatly.

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?):

Having broken a metatarsal bone in my right foot, I was left with fluid under my foot. Physio and Podiatry didn't work. My wife knows a lady called Jenny Pass who told her about the Bowen Therapy, I have now had 5 sessions with Jenny and feel I am making progress, the fluid is spreading and walking is more comfortable.
